A think tank for media innovation and development in West Africa is called the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID). The Centre for Investigative Journalism was established in Nigeria in 2014 as a non-governmental organization, and it has since become a pioneer in the fields of investigative journalism, innovation, open data, verification, the promotion of journalist welfare and safety, elections, and freedom of information and expression. Beyond Nigeria in 2020, the CJID ventured into certain markets in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.
