It was dejection for Mbappe after the World Cup final against Argentina

Mbappe is the first player since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1966 to fire in three goals in a World Cup final.

He kicked off the shootout with a fantastic penalty, but Les Bleus ultimately came up short as Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni missed from 12 yards out.

And just like the rest of Didier Deshchamps’ squad, Mbappe was left gutted following the match.

France could have become the first side to successfully defend the World Cup since Brazil in 1962, but narrowly missed out in what is arguably the greatest final in World Cup history.

Macron, who has been in the stands throughout the tournament in Qatar to show his support, was quick to console the ex-Monaco forward.

He was spotted putting his arm around the 23-year-old as Mbappe rested his head into Macron.

Mbappe won the Golden Foot award after scoring eight goals in Qatar.
